Van Zellers Over 40 Years Very Old Tawny Porto

After harvesting by hand, the grapes were transported to the cellar in small boxes. After sorting, they were crushed in the whole bunch in the traditional way in lagares by foot. Fermentation took place in these lagares until the must reaches the right sugar content and is finished by adding brandy. The mixture of must and brandy remains in the lagares for 1 to 2 more days, with very light treading twice a day (10 minutes each time). Then the mixture rested with all the press wine in storage vats and the wine aged in wooden port barrels more than 100 years old. The over 40 years Very Old Tawny Porto is a blend of old Portos with an average age of over 40 years, and is bottled only on request.
