Weingut The Drift - Preisgekrönte Weine aus Südafrikas Overberg Region
The Winery
The Drift is the personal project and popular estate of the Jack family, which, like many of the Cape's southernmost vineyards, is situated in an unspoilt valley close to the small village of Napier in the Overberg region. As a member of PIWOSA (Premium Independent Wineries of South Africa), winemaker and owner Bruce Jack, who is widely known for his Flagstone wines and, more recently, for his work with Kumala, produces his award-winning portfolio of home-grown wines here.
The philosophy of the wines
Since the first bottle in 2005, all the wines have been produced exclusively from the farm's own grapes. This means that The Drift does not use external grapes or wines from other winemakers to produce its wines. Bruce Jack has made it his mission to produce distinctive wines of individual character and first-class quality - wines that fully express the extreme terroir and challenging growing conditions of his idyllic farm.
Collectors' items with glamour
At around 500 metres above sea level, The Drift boasts unique soil conditions that make for a distinctive, elegant and delicious wine. Produced in extremely small quantities, these wines provide stunning and unmistakable pleasure, and shine as true collectors' items on every wine connoisseurs shelf.
What's in the name?
The winery's small, yet incredibly sophisticated wine portfolio, presents its wines with creative and agile names, which are fully expressed on sophisticatedly designed labels.
The wines
Moveable Feast Estate Blend
This lively and spirited red is a cuvée that varies slightly from vintage to vintage depending on the results of the different barrels. Moveable Feast, which means "movable feast", is intended to illustrate this unpredictable coup of nature in its name. A wonderful blend of Malbec and Shiraz, skilfully blended with Tannat, Touriga Nacional and Barbera.
Poison Horse Barbera
Bruce Jack was warned about this tricky grape variety on his cold and windswept farm, but this in no way stopped him from growing Barbera and transforming it into this highly prized and prestigious wine. His persistent confidence was generously rewarded with excellent quality and fascinating character. A true gift of nature! We are sure that you will fall in love with this wine from the heart of Drift Farm.
Over the Moon - unfettered Red
According to winemaker Bruce Jack, this bold and new red wine style from Cinsault, Touriga Franca and Shiraz presents itself as an "unleashed" cuvée and with an aroma profile that he describes as "wild chaos". Over the Moon, which means "in seventh heaven" or "overjoyed", undoubtedly describes here the emotional outcome of this highly interesting pleasure!
Year of the Rooster Rosé
This dry rosé made from 100% good Pinotage was named after the Chinese Year of the Rooster. Bruce Jack set himself the goal here to produce a truly serious rosé, so serious that James Bond would drink it. This is not always an easy thing to do with rosés. But when big goals go against all expectations, there is often the possibility of producing something truly remarkable. The Chinese symbol of the cock stands for determination, seriousness and perfectionism - a fitting name for this rosé!
There Are Still Mysteries
This varietal Pinot Noir already describes in its name that this grape variety often has its very own will and has an almost relentless and mysterious side to it in viticulture. But when all conditions are right, many a person will turn from a first-class Pinot Noir like this one back into a believer - a wonderful mystery!
