Daniël de Waal, owner and winemaker of the Super Single Vineyards winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa, is passionate about producing handcrafted wines from selected vineyards in Stellenbosch, the Coastal and Sutherland-Karoo regions. His award-winning portfolio includes highly prized wines in both the Mount Sutherland Continental Wines and Pella Coastal Wines ranges.

The Canettevallei Wine and Lavender Farm has a history dating back to 1682. This old family estate is tucked away in the idyllic Stellenboschkloof valley, surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful nature. It is the home of the De Waal family and the place where winemaker Daniël de Waal and his wife Ingrid find their inspiration and live it to the full.

Daniël's love and passion for the soil and nature finds an unmistakable expression in all his wines. His wife Ingrid produces a range of lavender products from the farm's own lavender and their famous Moskonfyt from their own harvest, a syrupy jam made from grape must.

Her passion for good food and good wine led her to the decision to produce her own wine. So they renovated a small outbuilding on the farm and turned it into a small boutique winery. For Daniël, Diner's Club Winemaker of the Year 2002, wine must first and foremost meet their own tastes and high expectations. That's why Super Single Vineyards only produce small quantities of wine, but always of the finest and highest quality. To achieve this high goal, Daniël is always looking for the best vines and the perfect terroir, which is not necessarily given on his own Canettevallei Farm.

In this way, Daniël has discovered some, as the name of the winery suggests, "Super" vineyards of the highest quality. These are hidden, mostly as an absolute insider tip, spread over the entire Western Cape wine growing area. Vineyards where the high quality grapes for Pella Coastal Wines are grown. He also established South Africa's first true "cool continental" vineyard on the farm Kanalfontein in the Sutherland-Karoo region, the highest and coolest wine growing region in Africa - the place of origin of his Mount Sutherland wines.
