Spice Route
The Spice Route Winery has found its distinctive wine style in the warm hilly landscape along the west coast of the Cape.
Here, traditional methods of cultivation are combined with modern, minimalist procedures in the wine cellar and the result is incredibly mature wines with sensational flavours and depth. Five centuries ago, sailors defied the unfathomable seas and circumnavigated the Cape in their search for exotic spices. It was precisely this courage and research that inspired owner Charles Back to establish the Spice Route Winery in 1997.
Due to the deep red earthy soils the bush vines thrive unwatered even through the long and warm summers - harsh conditions tempered by the cool breezes of the Atlantic Ocean. In the few years since its foundation, the winery has made a meteoric rise to the top ranks of the South African wine industry.
