Quinta de Baixo - Prämiertes Weingut im Dão, Portugal
The Quinta de Baixo was built 20 years ago in the municipality of Cantanhede, in the Bairrada region. The calcareous loamy soils have proved to be an optimal breeding ground for the Baga grape. But also the other grape varieties typical for the region, such as Touriga Nacional, Castelao, Bical or Maria Gomes are successfully cultivated. The practical location of the winery on a hill allows a vinification where gravity is used. In addition, the feet are still traditionally stamped with the feet (Pisa Pe). Thus the wine is produced gently and naturally. The pleasant maritime climate, with hot summer temperatures and cool nights, produces very good grape quality, which serves as the basis for many excellent wines.
