Quinta da Carvalhosa - Weingut in Portugals renommierter Douro Region
Bernd Philippi of Weingut Koehler-Rupprecht (Kallstadt in the Pfalz) and Bernhard Breuer of Weingut Georg Breuer (Rüdesheim in the Rheingau) bought the Quinta da Carvalhosa vineyard in the famous Douro region in Portugal in 2000. It was not long before Werner Näkel from the Meyer-Näkel Winery (Dernau an der Ahr) joined the dynamic team as a third partner. With its award-winning red wines such as Campo Ardosa and Ardosino, made from the autochthonous grape varieties typical of the region, such as Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz, Quinta da Carvalhosa has secured a firm and successful place for itself not only in the Portuguese wine world, but also on an international level.
The winery is located between the towns of Regua and Pinhao, in the heart of the Douro River. The Quinta's vineyard sites consist exclusively of the so-called A and B sites, the best in the Portuguese classification system. The part of the vineyard that is cultivated with vines is 8 hectares, all of which are steep slopes. The average age of the vines on Quinta da Carvalhosa is between 20 and 40 years. The annual production amounts to about 40,000 bottles
