Post House Vineyards - Prämiertes Weingut in Stellenbosch, Südafrika

Post House Vineyards
Post House Vineyards

With its high location, the Post House Vineyards Winery has breathtaking views over Cape Point, False Bay and the surrounding Helderberg Mountains. This area is one of the most outstanding wine regions in South Africa, where Post House Vineyards grows varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Petit Verdot, Pinotage, Chenin Blanc and Viognier. Winemaker Nick Gebers received an incredible 4.5 stars from the South African John Platter Wine Guide with his Penny Black, a five-variety Bordeaux-style cuvée, and another 4 stars for his blend of Shiraz, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the Blueish Black. Quality that can be seen!

The farm was systematically set up for the cultivation of wine. In 1996 Nick Gebers first produced a few experimental barrels. Two years later, after a long stay in the French Burgundy, he brought his first vintage to the market. The main house of the farm served as a post office in days long gone and so as a logical step, the wine and postal background were brought together - Post House Vineyards was born. The names of the individual wines have their origins in philately (stamp collecting). So the wines of Post House Vineyards got names of famous stamps.

Before 1980, 71 hectares of tobacco and bush vines grew on Post House Vineyards. The concept of the terroir is fundamental to the excellent quality of the wines. Post House Vineyards use lean soils rather than lush fertile soils, resulting in a more balanced wine. This is because vines on fertile soils grow more intensely and vigorously, resulting in lower yields and poorer berry quality. Post House vines thrive on lean soils, which produce wines of excellent balance between alcohol content and acidity.

The first impression of Post House wines is often linked to the colour of the wines. The winery's red wines are without a doubt among the darkest and deepest coloured wines in the world. The winery produces small quantities of its premium wines - less so often is more!
