Luddite Wines - Exklusives Weingut in Südafrikas Bot River Region
At Luddite Wines in the Bot River region everything revolves around the Shiraz!
Luddite Wines devotes all of its attention, love and passion to this noble grape variety, the Shiraz. Owner and winemaker Niels Verburg and his wife Penny, the winery's winemaker, form an excellent team that has made a name for itself in creating incredibly brilliant Shiraz wines. They are both intrepid luddites (the luddites were 19th century English textile craftsmen who protested against the newly developed labour-saving machines between 1811 and 1817). And so the naming of the winery is not surprising, as it honours a philosophy that is hostile to excessive technology. Luddite is scrupulously committed to a minimum of mechanisation and to producing a wine that is as natural as possible. For Niels Verburg it is important that wine lovers find in his bottles unadulterated wine with integrity. Many describe Luddite Shiraz as "Niels Verburg the winemaker in a glass".
Niels is 1.95 m tall and his smile is like a warm embrace. The first vintage of Luddite Shiraz was introduced to the wine world in 2000 and Niels Verburg is happy to say that he has improved with each new vintage. Today, Luddite's wine portfolio includes the famous Luddite Shiraz and the 2009 CWG Auction Reserve Oscar, both of which have been awarded lots of stars in the South African Platter's Wine Guide!
