Under the oenological direction of winemaker Dirk Coetzee, Mattheus Thabo and Francois Conradie, the winery's highly endowed and award-winning wine portfolio is being created at L'Avenir Vineyards in the foothills of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch, which has an unmistakably South African character with an elegant touch of French flair. The two classic South African grape varieties Chenin Blanc and Pinotage, as the cornerstone of the South African wine industry, are the main focus of L'Avenir.

At the heart of L'Avenir's portfolio is the Provence range, which revolves around the winery's legendary terroir. With gentle slopes, cool sea breezes, mountainous topography, fertile soils, gentle rainfall and hours of sunshine, this unique Stellenbosch terroir boasts remarkable conditions for viticulture at a very high level. In homage to the famous terroir of the historic Stellenbosch wine region, L'Avenir focuses on producing elegant wines that reflect their unique origins in every glass. Although L'Avenir was only founded in 1992 by Mauritius-born Marc Wiehe, the cellar's land has been used for growing wine since the beginning of South Africa's wine history in the 17th century. L'Avenir quickly rose to the status of an icon - the 1997 L'Avenir Chenin Blanc was voted the best in the country at the Chenin Blanc Challenge and until 2004, no other Pinotage has been voted into the top ten of the annual top list as frequently as L'Avenir. L'Avenir was taken over by Laroche in Chablis and after the merger of Laroche and the Jean family it is now part of AdVini - a family-owned wine producer with a focus on France and the L'Avenir Winery in South Africa.
