House of Mandela
The House of Mandela wine company focuses on respect for ancestors, as is clearly evident in the name of the brand. The company's wine ranges, including the Fairtrade accredited Thembu collection, have been created with the collaboration and help of winemaker Erlank Erasmus, former winemaker at Fairview Winery. The company's award-winning wines are offered in three different ranges: Royal Reserve Range, Vusani Series and Thembu Collection. A Méthode Cap Classique, awarded a remarkable four stars by the John Platter Wine Guide, also adorns the portfolio. Pure red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Merlot and Shiraz as well as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc on the white side form the specialities from the House of Mandela.
The name Mandela is characterized by deep tradition, consistency, royalty and a strong sense of community. This legacy is a fitting symbol for the House of Mandela trademark. Founded and run by the women of the Mandela family, the wines are deeply inspired by the so often repeated words of Madiba to his children and grandchildren:
"I have been shaped by the cultural traditions and values of my ancestral roots and forefathers."
To continue and preserve these traditions, the Mandelas today create wines that carry the soul and energy of South Africa. Like wine, South Africa is an impressive kaleidoscope of different colours and textures.
The history of the Mandelas goes back to a small village on the river Mbashe - of royal bloodline dating back to the 18th century, when Thembu Land was part of the Eastern Cape kingdom. The family legacy goes back to the chief of Mvezo and father of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. House of Mandela wines embrace and embody the same values of their namesake and are now among the country's ambassadors, illuminating the diversity, richness and excellence of their home country, South Africa. The Mandela family hopes that people will enjoy their wines when they come together to share stories, experiences and the spirit of unity.
