Growing Region Abruzzen | Italy
Abruzzo is dominated by the Apennines, which have their highest peaks here with the 2914 m high Corno Grande in the Gran Sasso d'Italia massif and with the 2975 m high Monte Amaro in the Maiella mountains. The few flat areas are reassuringly high above sea level.
Climatic conditions vary from cool and humid in the high interior, exposed to the influence of the sea from both sides, to consistently warmer and drier down to the 129 km long Adriatic coast. Viticulture is partly practiced at high altitudes. However, most of the vineyards are located in the hills on calcareous clay soil along the Adriatic Sea, where air movement is present even during the usual summer drought. Abruzzo wine lovers appreciate above all the reasonable price-quality ratio of the wines.
