Burmester is one of the absolute top producers of Tawny Port in Portugal, whereby the vintage Tawnys, the so-called Colheitas, are the speciality of the house. The award-winning and highly remunerated portfolio includes Burmester Ruby Porto, Burmester White Porto, Burmester Tawny Porto, Burmester Colheita of various vintages as well as Old Tawny Porto. For quite some time now, Burmester has been producing two wines, such as the Burmester Tinto from Portugal's famous Douro region, in addition to an extensive selection of port wines. Burmester is regularly awarded the most prestigious and sought-after prizes and recognitions for its consistent top quality on a worldwide level. The historic beginning of the Burmester company goes back to the 18th century in Schleswig-Holstein, where the Burmesters had held the office of mayor ("Burgmeester") in the village of Mölln for generations. In 1999, the company was bought by Amorim, the world's largest cork producer. Since 2006, Burmester is part of the Sogevinus Group, which also includes big names such as Kopke, Cálem, Gilberts and Feist.
