Anthonij Rupert Wyne - Top Weingut in Franschhoek, Südafrika
From their home base at L'Ormarins Wine Farm, beneath the angular peaks of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains in Franschhoek, Anthonij Rupert Wines has cast its net far and wide across the length and breadth of the Cape Winelands in search of what is required to produce the finest wines.
Winegrowing came to South Africa in the middle of the 17th century. The historic L'Ormarins Wine Farm was established not long after that, in 1694. Until the beginning of the 19th century, most of the farm owners were of French-Huguenot descent. The Rupert family acquired the estate in 1969 and continued the tradition of wine production. In 2005 the ownership of the family business passed to Johann Rupert, who named the estate after his late brother Anthonij Rupert. Under his leadership a complete renovation of the estate was carried out, which transformed the winery into one of the most innovative in South Africa.
Winemakers Dawie Botha and Zanie Viljoen are responsible for the production of the special Anthonij Rupert wines.
